Blue skies and new horizons

Where to begin!? We're only just arriving at Monday evening and I'm already in love with this week! First of all I better give you a bit of context: on Friday, I finished my full-time job and transitioned into the world of freelancing and contract work. Let me tell you, the last few weeks have been a mixture of stress, excitement, panic, joy, more panic, and then eventually elation.

When I walked out the door of my job for the last time, I didn't really have a chance to get sentimental as it was pouring with rain and all I wanted was to get myself into the dry car without getting drenched. I have now had time to consider the fact that I probably won't see my old office ever again ... and I'm OK with that, because this week has already got me so excited for my future.

First of all, it finally stopped raining. I'm OK with rain, except this round of precipitation was just ridiculous. Rural Auckland was absolutely drowned! The Hunua Falls went crazy, out in Drury, quiet little rivers were turned into raging rapids, and, on a much more minor scale, my washing got dry, then wet, then dry, then wet, about four times. However, after a little bit of rain this morning, all of a sudden we've got bright blue skies above us to welcome in autumn!

Next up, I got some good news about some work I've been super excited about for the last couple of weeks. I'm so excited to crack into my new working life — I'm a bit of a workaholic, so the idea of sitting around and not having anything to do was starting to panic me. But it sounds like I'll be up to the gills in work for the next few months, so I won't be left idle for very long!!

While we're in the transitioning phase, however, I do have a little bit of time on my hands, so I was pretty stoked to be home, avoiding the crazy Auckland traffic, and plodding away at little household jobs, like making the bed, folding washing, getting another load on, hanging washing on the line, doing dishes ... all of those little things that are beyond frustrating when you get home from a long day at work.

If I'm already this stoked with life and I'm only one day into my new working lifestyle, I imagine I've made a pretty excellent life decision.

Watch this space!
