Knit and Watch: the August 2019 edition
If I’m going to sit down and watch TV, it’s going to be with knitting needles in hand. Here’s an insight into what I’ve been knitting and watching during August.
That ‘70s Show
I remember watching the odd episode here and there of this show when I was younger. I had a completely different perspective of some of the characters, and I didn’t understand what was happening when they’d all be sitting in a circle in the basement with plumes of smokes surrounding them. I get it now… I really didn’t like the mum, Kitty, when I watched this years ago, but this time around (and considering I’ve started from the beginning), I absolutely adore her! Maybe being a bit older and having that more mature relationship with your parents makes you view parental characters a bit differently. This one’s such a great show to knit and binge to, even if you have more complicated projects you’re working on — the dialogue is hilarious enough to be able to follow along with without always looking up.
I’ve been watching That ‘70s Show on Netflix.
Derry Girls
Now this one you’ll want a simpler pattern for. You need to be watching a lot more for this one — the facial reactions the characters have throughout this show are absolutely priceless and you don’t want to miss a thing. I’ve just started season two of Derry Girls and it’s already an absolute riot. Follow a group of teenage girls, and James, in Northern Ireland, as they grow up at a Catholic all girls school in the 1990s. Seriously, it’s hilarious and you must watch it.
I’ve been watching Derry Girls on Netflix.
Late Night
Yea alright, this one I didn’t take my knitting to, but hey, I’ll throw in whatever else I’ve watched too. This one is the film with Emma Thompson and Mindy Kaling. It follows a host of a late-night talk show whose popularity is waning. She wants a woman writer on her show and Mindy Kaling’s character is hired to bring some fresh ideas to the table. If you want some light-hearted entertainment that sort of touches on diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Check this film out — if you can knit in the dark, take your knitting.
I watched Late Night at Event Cinema on Broadway in Newmarket, Auckland.
That ‘70s show and Derry Girls will keep me occupied for the rest of August, so look out in September for another round-up … unless I go to the movies and desperately need to bring you a review!
