Get to know Lara in 15 questions

Although I talk about myself a lot, I don't really talk ABOUT myself, if that makes sense. You know when I enjoy a book or when I bake something fun, but you may not know too much about me. So I thought I'd have a bit of fun and introduce myself in 15 questions!

So, hi! I'm Lara, the force behind Yarns, and here's a little bit of info about me!

Are you more of a hunter or a gatherer?

Gatherer if we're being literal! But probably a hunter with Yarns in mind. I'm always on the look out for bits and pieces that I can turn into awesome upcycled pieces. I've currently got four projects on the go for spring and summer, so keep an eye out!

What do you think about when you’re alone in your car?

I don't really drive much any more, but when I am driving around by myself I'm usually singing my heart out, so lyrics to songs are all I'm really thinking about!

What’s your favourite ’90s jam?

Strangely enough, it was probably Wonderwall by Oasis!

What were you like in high school?

It's weird. I don't really remember what I was like. I think I was quite quiet. I was a crazy hard worker — I wasn't as super intelligent as the group of friends I had so had to work my butt off to get the grades I wanted. I feel like I was a creative in a bunch of scientists, but we all got along really well, and high school was definitely a lot of fun. But I'm glad it's over!

What’s the last thing you watched on TV and why did you choose to watch it?

I'm currently watching Arrested Development for the first time! I've never watched it before and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. It's so funny!

What inspires you?

My family. My entire family is so hard working. We've always worked our butts off to get to where we want to be, and be able to do what we want to do. Seeing my family work so hard inspires me to keep working towards my goals.

How would you rate your memory?

Well, I always thought my memory was pretty good, but I'm constantly being reminded about things I've said, or committed to that I somehow seem to forget about. So maybe it's not so hot...

What is the best purchase you've ever made?

I'm not entirely sure that it's the absolute best purchase ever, but my KeepCup has been a quality purchase since I bought it a couple of years ago. Imagine how many coffee cup I'm no longer sending to landfill! Such a great feeling!

What’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever cried about?

Oh man, this one wasn't even that long ago. When I went and got my car's warrant of fitness, I was told I needed a new tyre. Excellent, I thought, as that's an easy fix! So I took it to the tyre shop and took the guy over to my car, pointed to the tyre that needed to be changed, and then went and chilled out for a bit. The car was finished, and the next day I took it back to get my warrant. The guy looked at me like I was insane and told me the tyre hadn't been changed. The guy at the tyre shop had swapped the wrong tyre! I was so annoyed by having to go through the process again that I went home and threw myself on my bed and had a good cry.

What is one thing you refuse to share?

Books. Hands down. I'm not a sharer at the best of times, but I hate sharing my books with a passion. I never get them back, and if I do, they are in terrible condition. So I've made a hard and fast rule that I just won't lend my books to people.

Which would be harder for you to give up: coffee or alcohol?

Coffee I reckon. I do like a glass of wine at the end of the week, but I can go for an extended period of time without feeling like a drink. Coffee, on the other hand, is the first thing I think about on a weekday morning and tends to help me get through those 3.30-itis moments.

If you could start a collection of one kind of item, what would it be?

I've kind of cheated on this one as I've already started both collections. I've been collecting teapots for several years now, and since we moved into our little home, I've taken to collecting pieces of art work. Mainly prints at this stage, but I'm keen for lots of artwork in my home in the future.

If you inherited a single room cabin in the woods, would you be excited or disappointed?

That sounds like a writer's heaven! Imagine locking yourself in a cabin in the middle of nowhere and just writing up a storm. It sounds incredible — I would be stoked.

What is your favourite perfume?

I've had the same favourite perfume since I was 16 years old (yikes, that's almost 10 years!!!). Dolce & Gabbana The One. So good.

What was your favourite subject in high school?

I mean, I always loved English because it was so bloody easy for me, and also the most creative class I decided to take towards the end of my high school journey. But I actually really loved biology. If I hadn't decided to go with communications and journalism as an initial career step, then I would have entered into the biology world I think!

There's a crash course in getting to know me. I think even I've learnt a bit more about myself that I'd forgotten about!
